PROCESS
Every project is different, but here’s how to get from needing a little space to a perfect plum in your yard.
-

1. Discover
Use the contact form to send us your site’s location, your questions, and we’ll get back to you with some preliminary feasibility information. (Your town permitting office is another good resource, and Maine customers can also check out the Maine ADU Guide.)
-

2. Make it Yours
With the team at plum, choose your model, your finishes, your options. In Maine, choose whether you’d like to manage the process yourself, retain a general contractor, or have plum provide the development services. We’ll sign contracts for your plum, the payment plan and the included services, with a delivery date (and a price) you can count on. plum plans to start deliveries in SPRING 2028.
-

3. Prep the Site
Site work can be handled by a homeowner, a homeowner’s general contractor or owner’s rep, or (for a flat fee) by plum. In any case, plum will provide all the technical information needed for these steps! Preparing your site will likely include:
Obtaining a building permit from your town;
Installation of the appropriate foundation or footings for your plum;
Extending (or installing) the utilities for your plum: power, water, sewer or septic; and
Retaining the trucking and craning services for site installation.
-

4. Build
Once the town has issued a building permit, your plum will be built in our Maine facility. We’ll send along progress reports (and you can schedule a factory visit). We love showing off how a plum is made.
-

5. Install
Once permitting, site work, and the build are complete, it’s installation time! Your plum will arrive on a trailer to be craned into place (first the body, then the roof), stitched together, and connected to utilities. A day or two on site is all we need for your plum to be complete.

6. ENJOY!
